About This Spot
Stepping into Caffè Antica Roma feels like slipping into an unspoken ritual that the Romans have enjoyed for generations. Nestled on a quiet corner of Via Marco Aurelio, this espresso bar invites you to slow down and savor the small joys of a genuine Italian café experience. The pace here is unhurried but lively enough to keep the warm hum of conversation and clinking cups flowing effortlessly.
The atmosphere is quietly welcoming—the kind of place where the baristas know your face by the second visit and greet you with a familiar nod or smile. It’s not a tourist-driven spectacle but a true local gathering spot where the rhythms of daily life play out alongside the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
At Caffè Antica Roma, breakfast and mid-morning breaks feel like celebrations of simple, well-crafted flavors. The pastries seem to melt seamlessly with the boldness of a perfectly pulled espresso or a creamy cappuccino balanced just right. Whether it’s a buttery croissant or a sweet maritozzo filled with whipped cream, these treats carry a quiet reverence for tradition without ever feeling fussy. The bar also offers thoughtful choices, catering to different tastes and needs with a range of milk options that feel considerate rather than trend-driven.
It’s a café where time slows enough to appreciate the bright freshness of a squeezed orange juice or the subtle layers of a caffè marocchino. And, perhaps most telling, this is a place where morning visitors find themselves returning day after day, not because it’s an attraction, but because it feels like a small extension of home.

Lovely cafe with pastries and fresh sandwiches. Everyone is really nice and welcoming. Not a tourist trap with low quality food. This is a legit Italian cafe.
Highly Recommended! This cozy café truly impressed me. The staff were warm and welcoming, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere from the moment I arrived. The food was delicious— especially the croissant, which was perfectly flaky and buttery. Drinks were top-notch too: the fresh orange juice was bright and refreshing, and the cappuccino hit that perfect balance of bold flavor and creamy foam. A wonderful spot for a quick bite or a peaceful coffee break after visiting Colosseum.
Nice, local coffee shop! Try the super crunchy and creamy cornette with pistachio. Marzotti (bun with a whip cream inside) was also should be tried. Coffee was very delicious, I had both cappuccino and espresso lungo. Lactose free and other milk options available.
My husband and I came by this wonderful cafe every single morning except the one day they were closed. Every morning the cappuccinos were creamy and delicious. My husband also says that the pistachio croissant is one of the best he's had in all of Italy so far (we've been to Rome and Florence). The staff were welcoming and charming, and by the fourth day they had already memorized what we usually ordered and started it before we were even up to the counter. They even helped me practice my Italian, as I tried to learn a bit before coming to Italy. I loved learning more about how they speak. Thank you for being so wonderful to two random tourists!
Really nice little cafe with yummy but affordable coffee and food. Music created a nice atmosphere, staff very friendly. Toilets were available- free for customers or 1eu for non customers. Really nice spot
We had such a great experience at Caffè Antica Roma. The two gentlemen working that morning were incredibly nice and friendly, which made the visit feel so welcoming. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the cappuccino was perfect. You really can’t beat the price for the quality you get here. We arrived around 6:30 AM on a Saturday, and it was calm and cozy inside. By about 7:00 AM, it started to get busy, so going early was definitely a plus. Highly recommend for a warm, tasty, and affordable breakfast in Rome!
We loved this café in Rome! It feels very local and authentic, nothing pretentious, just excellent coffee and simple food done perfectly. I ordered a ham and cheese toast that honestly tasted like heaven, even though it was “just a toast.” My husband tried a small custard dessert, and even though in the morning I’m not into sweets at all, I had a bite and it was amazing. Everything was fresh, delicious, and with that classic Roman charm. Highly recommend if you want a genuine café experience.
Amazing spot near the Colosseum. Just a short walk from the Colosseum, but it feels far from the usual tourist crowds. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, and their sandwiches are absolutely delicious. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Definitely one of my go-to places for breakfast in Rome from now on.
